Mauritius Metro Train

A soft launch of the Mauritius Metro Train will take place on 30 September 2019. Four trains will provide service between Rose-Hill and Port Louis and each metro train will carry 307 passengers, 229 standing and 78 seats.

 

The Metro Express Ltd (MEL) maintained that for the first weeks, subway would operate with a minimum of four trains while the arrival of other gradually in December. “We are confident that we will provide a good service for Phase 1 and will optimize our operations in the interest of our passengers "says MEL.
 
The interval between the arrivals of trains will be 15 minutes approximately. Moreover, in December the frequency between the subways should be reduced from 10 to 12 minutes. As eight trains are expected to be operational in the next three months, the interval of trains arrival will eventually falls to 8 minutes.  “Finally, when the project is operational between Curepipe and Port Louis, the frequency of the arrival of a train will be 5 to 6 minutes. The downtime will be about 30 seconds”(MEL Source).
 
On, Monday, September 2, two new trains - Mauricio IV and V - landed the Hoëgh Detroit. Last testing will begin on September 23 by the MEL and a final trial track on the entire route between Rose Hill and Port Louis during the third week. Das Mootanah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MEL, stated this during the landing of Mauricio IV and V, on 2 September 2019.
 
It is the Singaporean captains and those of Larsen & Toubro who will take over the trails. The trial run will be done on the whole course at variable speed, up to the maximum speed of 70-80 km / h. "During this period, the overall system integration will be tested. The goal is to know if the whole system, notably computer and electronic, is in harmony with the Light Rail Vehicles and the Operation Control Center, based at the Richelieu depot.
 
It is expected that two trains will land each month, until the number of 18 Light Rail Vehicles, which will serve the Curepipe-Port Louis route.  The first two trains are currently managing static and dynamic tests at the Richelieu depot. These consist in checking the characteristics of the train, the air conditioning, the opening and the closing of the doors and the speed, which will be gradually progressive.
 
On 4 September 2019, Mauricio and Mauricio II made their great outing between Richelieu and Barkly at a speed of 5 km / h. In the upcoming weeks, Mauricio IV and V will undertake a battery of static and dynamic tests.

 

To be noted that all tests must be completed on 22 September 2019.
